my abstractWiMAX, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, provide both business and consumer based wireless broadband services on the scale of the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) based on the IEEE 802.16 standard.
In this report, the technical aspect of WiMAX and how WiMAX integrates into our current broadband infrastructure were studied. The report also includes the possible applications of WiMAX and comparison of WiMAX with existing wireless broadband technologies namely Wi-Fi and 3G.
WiMAX was found to have the largest area of coverage ranges from 30 to 50 kilometers currently. The standard specified operation in frequency ranges between 2GHz to 11 GHz and the transmission rate exceeds 100Mbps in a 20MHz bandwidth capacity. It uses point to multipoint topology and 256 carriers Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM).
WiMAX was used to provide the overall link for other Wi-Fi hotspots in order to have a more thorough coverage of both indoor and outdoor wireless broadband access. Thus, user can enjoy a faster broadband connection enhanced with more mobility, and also get to access the Internet as and when they like without having to worry about the availability of Wi-Fi hotspot or whether the area is under the 3G network coverage.
From the finding, it is make known that the emergence of WiMAX will change the scene of current wireless broadband markets and deemed as the key solution in providing a low latency with high bandwidth wireless broadband environment on a wide area scale which meets the demand of the industry.
CB kia abstractNowadays there are three most popular wireless network technologies Third-Generation (3G), Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX). 3G is a wide area mobile network which encompasses the mobile phones, paging communication and existing fixed line telecommunication networks. Wi-Fi refers to a family of network standards, which means it only can be accessed within a small coverage area. WiMAX is the latest technology which compounds both 3G and Wi-Fi technologies. In this report, the technical aspect of WiMAX and how WiMAX integrates into the existing broadband infrastructure were studied. The comparisons based on modulation, coverage, frequency, speed and cost were discussed among 3G, Wi-Fi and WiMAX.
WiMAX was found that it uses Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) to provide high frequency about 2GHz to 11GHz, this results the greater transmission rate about 350Mbps, which is 175 times faster than 3G and 3 to 6 times faster than Wi-Fi. WiMAX has largest area of coverage ranges from 30 to 50 kilometers in radius for just one base station, because of this advantage WiMAX can be applied as the overall link for 3G or Wi-Fi in rural areas, and it also won’t be affected by hurricanes and earthquake, so it’s cost effective for business.
WiMAX is an excellent wireless technology, which can overcome the weakness of 3G and Wi-Fi. As the increasing demand for the wireless services and the more requirements of emerging applications in the market, WiMAX will change the scene of current wireless broadband markets, since it can provide a high transmission speed, coverage the largest area, low latency and low cost which meets the demand of the industry.
